It was not too long ago that most people worked directly for their own interests. Perhaps they were on a farm or a fishing boat, and every single chore served the maintenance and survival of their family and farm or boat. There was no task that they did not understand the overall context of, and how it fit into what they had built for themselves. Today, it is not uncommon for people to do a job, day in and day out, without having any idea of what they are a part of, what their work contributes to, or how it serves the overall community… If indeed, it does at all.
It is amazing how many people it takes to build a car or a rocket. All those people, focused on their one task, unaware of what all of the others are actually doing, are managed and coordinated to achieve great things. It is currency, and a society built on currency that enables this. But, very few think of the dark side of this coin. A sinister force could manage and coordinate people in the same manner to do great evil without any of them knowing it. Many people, working in isolation, all focused on their singular task, and completely unaware of what the overall objective is. Each single task not appearing to be anything nefarious, but all together, at the end of the process, it could lead to murder or genocide.
While currency has been in existence for millenia, at no time in our history has it been so tightly woven into our daily lives. Almost every single person today works to make money without knowing about, or caring about the overall objective and context of their labor.
All of our religions and myths are from a time when currency was less significant and more scarce. All of our mythologies address the risks and rewards of currency in very vague, rudimentary, all or nothing concepts. We know today that currency is not going away. We know that it is an important tool that does make our lives better, but all tools can also be used as weapons.
Our schools teach the logic of currency. Justice is not logical, it is emotional, and “it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle,..” is just not good enough to help people in our current world.
