Another would-be comedian was in the news recently. Some people took offense to a joke. Whether people were truly offended, or simply looking for an opportunity to complain, it is a good example of how the energy of intention works in our lives.

Don Rickles could take the stage and spend a solid two hours in a steady stream of racism and bigotry, and not a single rational person on the planet would get offended. Nor would any accusations of him being racist hold water. This is because his intentions were always to bring joy to people and make them laugh.

Alternately, we see some people take the stage and make one questionable joke, and the whole world explodes with accusations. This, most likely, is because the comedian’s intentions were more about becoming a comedian, getting attention, gaining wealth and fame, than they were about bringing joy to people and making them laugh.

It may seem trivial and insignificant, but tiny energy differences in our intentions become much larger and significant when they are manifested into the world. Most notably, in this example, the first intention was about other people and the second was about themselves.

Our intentions are fundamental to how we read and adapt to our environment. This is why there does not need to be a grand conspiracy to turn our government against the public. There only needs to be a majority of leaders whose intentions are about themselves and not the community.

This is important with everyone and everything, but now it is very important in politics and leadership. Are the candidate’s intentions about power and money, about being seen as a leader, or are their intentions about playing a role for the community’s benefit. A role that involves many sacrifices.
