“Independence” is the word the snake whispered to Eve in the Garden of Eden. If we were independent from God, then we would be equal to God. Of course, it is a trick. There is no independence. Everything is connected and interwoven. To fight for independence is to fight against a part of ourselves.

In our effort to survive we have learned to create tools, but every tool can also be used as a weapon. There is only one thing that distinguishes whether something we have created is being used as a tool or a weapon: “accountability.”

In our pursuit of independence, we have learned to create our own gods. We use these gods to give us leverage and justify our actions. But no matter how clever we are, how effective we are at marketing the god we created, it still is just a tool,.. or a weapon.

Even though it is a rough and tricky road to walk, “accountability” is the only thing that can give us freedom. Everything else is just fighting a battle against a part of ourselves.
