We will never be able to stop history from repeating itself. Most likely, the variable that drives our repetitive self destruction is the last minute reactive effort to change things radically… in order to prevent history from repeating itself.
The best we can do is make reasonable incremental changes over time, through many cycles of feast and famine, rises and falls, so history could see things gradually move forward. However, this requires a shared vision of a future we all want to live in to guide the imagination over many generations.
Developing a shared vision we all want to live in and sustaining the choice to pursue this vision over generations requires maturity. Maturity at a level of consciousness we cannot control.
