Consciousness is nothing more than awareness of the thought process. Subconsciousness is all the processes that occur without our awareness. Naturally, there is a spectrum of consciousness: some people are more conscious than others; they are aware of more of the processes happening in their mind.
The thought process requires data input from our senses. What our brain does is categorize and organize that information so that it may be used. Consciously, we call this imagination, but plenty of it is going on subconsciously as well. Each separate category our brain creates is a tree growing in a forest ecosystem.
The more conscious a person is, the more lush and populated their forest ecosystem is. A person sitting quietly minding their own business in a coffee shop will see and hear things. All of it is data input into their brain. The brain then tries to categorize and organize that data. If the data is of another regular to the coffee shop, then a tree begins to grow as a story-line develops over time.
A lot of people are not as conscious as they would like to believe. They cannot handle many trees in their forest. Usually those people prefer to stick closely to their established routines and social circles, even though they don’t really know why. It is easier to perpetuate a bias or stereotype than it is to allow another story-line to enter their awareness and understanding.
A narcissist may be of higher consciousness, but they have only one tree growing in their mind and they refuse to allow any other tree to grow. They force all data to become branches on their one tree. Typically, as time goes by, the one tree of the narcissist becomes grossly distorted and unwieldy.
The few people who are of higher consciousness and enjoy a lush forest in their understanding, will have to spend some energy protecting their forest from politics and intrigue. The power brokers and influencers will try to force people to simplify their awareness by logging trees from their forest to meet certain specifications. The secret to successfully protecting a forest ecosystem from such loggers is to allow data input from them and their efforts to become a tree, its own story-line, within the forest ecosystem of our consciousness.
