If I were King,.. I would make a small adaptation to the standard eight sided stop sign we all know today.
Every morning I get a cup of coffee and sit to organize my brain at a place on the corner of a four way intersection that is only a three way stop. The intersection is in a plaza parking lot, but only about one hundred fifty feet from the main road. Thus, traffic coming into the parking lot does not have to stop at the intersection so cars do not get backed up into the main road. Simple enough. However, there are always problems. Every morning I witness several near misses because no one reads the tiny little sign, with tiny little letters, under the stop sign that says, “traffic from the left does not stop.”
The alteration I would make is instead of the solid white border all the way around the sign, there would be just a simple strip of bright green reflective paint on the side of the stop sign from which traffic does not have to stop.
That’s all. Easy peasy. And it would provide a simple visual cue to those who can’t be bothered to read anymore… Which, it seems, is most people.
