There is a very clear difference between doing something just for the money, and being moved by a passionate need to express ourselves.

It is easy to see in the art people produce; music, painting, writing, and everything else. It is also easy to feel in the energy and see in the demeanor of professionals in their daily approach to their work. What is also true, but maybe not as evident, is that there is a clear difference displayed in how people build their communities and society as a whole. A society built to respect and balance people’s passion is different from a society that is built to manage people’s productivity.

Although, I suspect that there is an evolutionary cycle involved, where a society built to be productive grows through fits and spasms to be more egalitarian and conscious of humanity… and vice versa. An emotionally balanced society will fight within itself to become more efficient and productive. And this pendulum will swing back and forth over the centuries driving the evolution of civilization.
