Telling a positive story of ourselves is normal and healthy. No matter what miserable situation we might find ourselves in, envisioning a scenario where we are the righteous hero on a path to a better life is good. Like a golfer envisioning a shot before they address the ball.

The question that measures a persons character and integrity is, ‘is the story fair and just?’ The question that measures a person’s sanity is, ‘how far must the story deviate from reality to be positive?’

This is where a moral code of conduct is most beneficial. Something to guide the story that guides our choices and actions.
