First we build a vision of what we want, then we make choices about priorities and principles, and then we try to make the vision real. Naturally, we learn along the way and must make revisions, which alter priorities, and affect our actions. It is a constant process, at many different levels and many different forms, all at the same time. All people, institutions, and societies evolve by this process.

Art is the process of building a vision.
Governance is the process of making choices.
Management is the art and science of getting things done.

A free, open, and effective society would encourage public art, open democracy, and current management practices.

Slavery begins when a person is excluded from building a vision; when their art is censored.

Intelligent, creative people have no problem sharing their vision, accepting alterations where needed for the benefit of others, and allowing managers the freedom to act as needed.

Despots and tyrants, the ignorant and violent, keep their vision secret and suppress art, limit choices, and control managers.
