To me, what we call consciousness is nothing more than a continuous process of storytelling. Much like how DNA is continuously replicating itself, our minds are constantly telling and retelling our story.  Most of this process we are unaware of; it is in our subconscious. Regardless of what we might think of it, this story is our truth and is composed of both fact and fiction.

  • Lunacy is when our story becomes disconnected from reality.
  • Depression is when the process slows down to a crawl.
  • Death is when the storytelling stops.
  • Spirituality is the pursuit of awareness; awareness of the story and of the process that constructs it.
  • Fanatics wish to have control of the process and the outcome.

To me, a healthy person makes an effort to keep the process of storytelling moving freely without trying to control it. And, thinking fractaly, this is the value and purpose of democracy and freedom of speech.
