My perspective is that everyone should have access to government assistance, but there needs to be strings attached; a reason for people to want to work their way out of it. Those strings should be of a nature where, if a person is comfortable living with the strings, then the community benefits from that person living with the persistent assistance.

I know both; people who could never live under the yoke of another, and people who desperately need to be enveloped in an institution to be happy.

(Of course, the difficulty is making the system fair and reasonable in a world where every profession is for profit and power.)
