Europe has nicer, more modern cities because they were completely rebuilt much more recently.
In Kurt Vonnegut’s book “Cat’s Cradle” most people were employed by the government working for either the Reeks or the Wrecks. One crew would go around at night destroying things, while the other went around during the day repairing those same things. This seems to be the intention of our current leaders, as this is what a “sustainable” society looks like, how it evolves, under the Death and Rebirth cycle.
There are many layers to human perception, but fundamental to all humanity, at the very foundation of our collective psyche, and at the root of our civilization, is the Death and Rebirth cycle. Even what we understand of the evolution process is limited to the Death and Rebirth cycle. Evolution fueled only by random mutations is the Death and Rebirth cycle. The old must die before the new can be born. Even our advanced cloning and genetic engineering is just increased efficiency of the Death and Rebirth cycle.
To move forward, to evolve past the Death and Rebirth cycle we must choose to accept more responsibility. Not responsibility for the Earth and the people around us, but for ourselves and our own behavior. We must choose to develop and enact a more efficient process of evolution. Not a process of evolution that we can apply to other life. A process of evolution that can only be applied by an individual, for their own development.
That is our next step in evolution. It is like making the choice to read the Bible from the perspective of the knowledgeable and confident God, the father, instead of the confused and frightened children.
