Our imaginations have become isolated.

Ants and bees communicate with chemicals, sounds, touch, and movement. Humans are no different.

The imagination is a very powerful tool. It gives structure to our perception and guides our behavior. Each of our senses sparks our imagination (including memories) and we can receive emotional energy from others directly, which also triggers our imagination and motivates us into action.

Religious stories and myths reinforce the routines that build communities, but also guide the imagination to keep the use of emotional energy from being misdirected and destructive to the community.

Soldiers who fought side by side on the battlefield are bonded by the shared experience. One word, one sound or smell can open up an entire scene in their imagination. Unfortunately, the experiences are so powerful they cannot be used in everyday communication.

Teenagers milling about, communicate volumes to each other with nothing more than song lyrics and movie quotes. The shared experiences centered around the movie quotes build more information in their imagination than the value of the words by themselves.

Two strangers who have both read Shakespeare can share more information with each other, more effectively, than two strangers who do not have any stories in common.

With each step in the evolution of civilization there has been an introduction of a new or updated popular story that acted as the foundation of a shared consciousness. Either a shared experience or popular myth, but a story everyone knows so that their ability to communicate improved; as well as their ability to anticipate each other and work together towards a common goal without even communicating at all.

Every time the Bible was updated and modernized, Christianity spread and grew stronger. The Bible has not been updated in far too long. (Not updated to be popularized, but updated with modern awareness and understanding.)

We have grown too far, too fast, and nothing is holding us together anymore. Our imaginations have become isolated.

There is no way to stop the collapse now, but to rebuild better will require a new or updated story to build a community around.
