There are times in life when we find ourselves trapped in someone else’s lesson. Even an active part of their lesson. At these times it is important to remember that we are experiencing our own lesson, different from theirs, just not as pronounced.
To fight for ourselves would nurture the toxic situation and prevent the person from taking the next step in their growth, development, and freedom. To sacrifice ourselves is to cancel all lessons and force us to repeat it all from the beginning. The correct answer is to elevate ourselves to the next level and fight for that instead.
For example, if a person in a marriage fights against their spouse for themselves they create a toxic environment that destroys everything around them. But, if that person takes time to develop their own understanding of family, and fights against their spouse for that instead, they would be doing the work of growth that brings resolution.
