There is no tool we can create that cannot also be used as a weapon.
Currency is a tool we created. Heretofore our monetary system has been based on a physical currency, which has been increasingly forced to transition to use quasi-digital currency. Currently, there is very little physical currency in our physical currency system compared to the mountain of pseudo-digital currency.
The future monetary system must be digital, of that there is no doubt. It will be similar to today’s system, except it will be designed around digital currency instead of physical currency, and will include a little physical currency. The question has been kicked around for some time as to whether this new digital system should be centralized or decentralized.
Currency is a tool we created, and a necessary evil. The most important factor to consider with tools that we create is how they will pressure our evolution when they become a part of our environment. There is no tool or system we can create that will completely eliminate crime. Centralized currency will pressure centralized organized crime. Decentralized currency will pressure decentralized organized crime. I doubt one is better than the other, but I am certain that organized crime goes through a similar process of rise and fall, feast and famine, that any other part of a society goes through. A strong centralized organized crime syndicate will become disconnected from reality and collapse, splintering into a million tribes that will slowly evolve back together into one again. Slowly adapting to their environment over time.
There is no tool we can create that cannot also be used as a weapon. It is the responsibility of every individual to do due diligence to ensure the tools we create are not used as weapons.
