I have seen many stories about the auto industry’s hard road ahead. Stories about the struggling economy and the increasing cost of owning a car, questions of fuel supply and environmental concerns, and how young people are simply losing interest. Well,.. I don’t know much about any of that, but I do know that the Baby Boomers are beginning to turn eighty.
Fortunately, most Baby Boomers are not in a position to prove their strength and vitality with contrived economic sanctions and reckless warfare. Unfortunately, the roadways and parking lots will become clogged with a massive army of ornery octogenarians asserting their sense of “independence”,.. the frustration of which will pressure (scare) everyone else to move back into urban centers and use mass transit.
It is my opinion that the only way to save the auto industry is for every single person, regardless of gender, race, religion, or wealth, to lose their driver’s license at the end of their seventy-fifth year. (Much more would be saved if we also lost the right to hold public office at the same time.)
