Since the Germans were such big fans of his first book, “Propaganda” (1928), Edward Bernays had to use his propaganda to rebrand his propaganda in his next book, basically the same book, “Public Relations” (1945). [And for the complete experience don’t forget the third book in his grand trilogy, “The Engineering of Consent” (1955).]

Public Relations, aka propaganda, is the art of taking something that is inherently negative and making it appear positive. Like taking a cutthroat industrialist technocrat oligarch and making them appear to be a humanitarian philanthropist.

If I were to trust my senses, which I often do, I think we are seeing an effort to rebrand fascism. It is not our grandfather’s fascism anymore. Instead prejudice and hate being used to separate the unclean from the pure based on the “science” of eugenics, prejudice and hate is now be used to separate the savage from the civilized based on identity politics.
