It happened slowly, almost by mistake.

In a growing economy new options were available to a new middle class; many more were able to go to college… regardless of their intent.

Young men whose only intent was to party and get laid, went for a basic degree in business. Young women whose only intent was to be seen, fit in, and compete for a husband, went for a basic degree in psychology. And when they finished school and set out into the world, their true and original intents never changed. The only difference was that they were better armed to achieve their goals and satisfy their desires.

By itself, as individuals, there is nothing wrong with this and should not be considered shameful; at the time it seemed like a great leap forward; but, our industrial society stamped out these drones like a wartime assembly line. And then,.. the bomb dropped.

The corporations, with their think tanks and marketing departments, realized what they had. No other revolution in history has changed a society, culture, and economy as rapidly and effectively as this army of selfish intent. It was the amount of change the hippies had hoped for, just in the opposite direction.
