Disposable vs Maintained

The United States has been stuck in a wartime economy since the end of World War Two. A significant trait of a wartime economy is that it favors the disposable,.. as apposed to the maintained.

The longer a wartime economy endures, the more everything within that economy becomes disposable… even people. (The disposable mentality spreads like a stain until nothing has real value.)

In the cycle of feast and famine the feast favors the disposable, while the famine favors the maintained. (The disposable evolves more rapidly, but the maintained is more efficient and sustainable.)

This means that to survive a famine, the disposable must transition to be maintained or perish. Which does not bode well for the United States as a whole, because even sustained war cannot override the effects of famine.
