Raking, or blowing leaves can be a frustrating endeavor; especially here in New England. Of the many variables that can slowly drive a person insane, a settling air mass is the worst.
Any amount of wind is fine so long as it is blowing in the right direction… but that never happens. If the wind is blowing too hard, we stay inside. If it is a gentle intermittent breeze, we stop working when the beginning of a breeze is felt on the face. However, there are times when there is no breeze to feel, and yet every time the leaves are disturbed they all settle back down ten feet off in one direction. This is the result of a settling air mass, And since the air mass never settles in the desired direction, we suffer a slow and grating insanity.
If you haven’t guessed by now, this is an analogy. A description of how the illusion of democracy was used to slowly remove the government from public influence.
A Natural Mechanism
If the first born child likes vanilla ice cream, the second will like chocolate, and the third will like something weird like shrimp cocktail ice cream. This is not the result of the children being stubborn and immature. This is how we evolved. It is a very old survival strategy ensuring that at least one child’s genes are passed on. The American illusion of democracy has adapted to exploit this evolutionary trait; the population will always accept being divided 40%-40%-20%.
The energy that maintains this illusion is that Americans are conned into treating every election as though it were the first election. As though we were living under a dark and brutal tyranny and the next vote will make everything different. Americans are in complete denial about the fact that we have had many elections already, and still the government continuously moves further and further away from public influence.
