An important element of a Feast that pushes a society over the edge and into Famine is the Illusion of Complexity.

The fact is that a healthy society is very complex indeed, but it is a complexity that we are not, and cannot be in full control of. It is a complexity that is in response to the realities of a complex environment we are not in control of.

The illusion of complexity that gets created in the second half of a Feast is intended to give the impression that scientists and billionaires are in control. It is a part of the acquisition of power.

The problem is that the Illusion of Complexity that is created distracts people from the actual complexity that exists.
