Some time ago, before all this modern weirdness, a person in my life who was normally an aggressive and abusive jerk, always looking to weasel people into doing things for them, came at me insisting that they were nice and friendly and there was no reason for me to be so distant and uncooperative. Generally, the way I deal with such non-threatening jerks is to peacefully keep them at arms length. You know, smile vacantly and count the second until they go away.

At the time I simply shrugged it off as just another arrow in their quiver of abusiveness. Now, however, things have evolved and I know the words to describe the experience better… they “self-identified” as a nice person, then abusively insisted that I treat them as such even though all the facts proved otherwise.

Unfortunately, this is a common political gambit used by everyone now…. even countries and corporations.
