Religion is a formula of rites, rituals, mores, and norms that have evolved, or been designed to build and maintain a community.
If I were to start a religion these would be the four corners of the foundation; The Four Constant Disciplines:
Reading and Writing (see last blog post),
Diet and Eating (not just what we eat, but how we eat),
Exercise and Labor (as individuals, in a group, and part of a team),
and Community Involvement (thinking in fractals, family is an individual that is also the smallest form of community).
Slowly and steadily, in small steps, over a lifetime, an individual would use the scientific method to improve upon these things. (And The 12 Step Program to rid ourselves of bad behaviors.)
Over time, we learn how the four corners meld together as we grow and adapt into our unique environment as individuals who are also a part of a community. Going for walks in the neighborhood is a simple way to combine Community Involvement and Exercise. Gardening combines Exercise/Labor and Diet. But, we also build upwards as we find new and more complex ways to express our individuality and find balance within the environment. Debates at community meetings combine Community Involvement and Reading and Writing. Having neighbors over for dinner; Diet and Eating, Reading and Writing, and Community Involvement.
From these four cornerstones, each individual, at every level of individuality in a fractal sense, builds a pyramid.
At the tip of the pyramid we find our career,.. our purpose.
