Morality has always been the rationale for resisting or acting against our basic instincts, but its focus has evolved with the times. It began as a justification for not stealing from or murdering other people, and has evolved to include the balancing of our Social and Industrial structures. (See Merging Paths)

Like anything, morality can be a weapon used to mislead people in the pursuit of power and profit, or a tool used to help create a level playing field for all people.
