Is it body, mind, and spirit,
or spirit, body, and mind?
Or, how about mind, spirit, and body?
How do we prioritize?

The body is our physical body,… obviously,
the mind is our cognitive ability,
and I define the spirit as our will, or sense of purpose.

A long time ago, the spirit was everything. Or, at least, a perception of spirit: the soul. People’s bodies were tortured and exterminated to bring their spirits into alignment with orthodoxy. And it did not matter if a person lost their mind so long as their spirit was considered intact. (Crazy people doing horrible things to spread orthodoxy.) People who had mind enough to lie effectively survived well enough. Back then it was Spirit first, with mind and body coming much later.

Today, we have swung to the opposite extreme. Our corporate, profit driven healthcare values the body, and the body alone. We are willing to torture the mind and exterminate the spirit in order to keep the body alive, because that is where the money is. Body first, then mind and spirit… if they are used to maintain orthodox.

What gnaws at me is that I really cannot find fault with this. It is not any institution’s responsibility to prioritize these things for us. It is not a doctor’s responsibility, or anyone else’s, to tell us what is important to us. In a free society, that is each and every individual’s right and responsibility. They will torture our minds and exterminate our spirits only if we let them; if we defer all choices to them.

Being here on this Earth, my priorities are Mind, Spirit, and Body. If my mind goes I will move along. If I have my mind, my first priority will always be to ensure my will is strong and I have a sense of purpose… even at the expense of my body.
