Long ago, when it was young, just a small little sapling, another tree fell on it
and bent it over… but did not break it.
Over the years, while other saplings grew up towards the sun in the shelter of the tall trees, that sapling was held bent over. Inconceivably, its trunk grew strong and solid in that shape. Then, almost unnoticeably, the other tree was removed and forgotten.
Most people who see this tree stop and take photos with laughter and joy. Some stand in front of it, and others are brave enough to climb on it. They marvel at the tree, but dismiss it as defective and move along.
A few people discreetly return again an again, during the quiet hours, to solemnly reflect on their shared experience.
