an ode to 2020
They tried to control each other
so they wouldn’t have to deal with their own insecurity;
their own confusion and doubt.
They tried to control each other
so they would not have to be responsible for their own emotions.
They both had an image in their mind
as to how the world should be.
Anything that happened in the real world
that did not fit that imagined perfection
was seen as the fault of the other; then,
was seen as the intentional sabotage of the other.
And, as it goes with the descending spiral of self-fulfilling prophecy,
they each began to sabotage the other, more and more,
as payback for the gross injustices they had suffered.
