Our society and culture is very immature.
It appears that we are at the beginning of a long and brutal learning curve. There is no way to sustainably control nature, or an entire population. Evolution, over millions of years, has designed it this way. Alas, much to our own suffering, people will try and try again.
In our efforts to control nature, we always forget to apply the principle of ecological succession. We can create an environment, but we can never anticipate or control how that environment evolves.
Don’t burn out trying to win this war, for this is actually just one little battle – a skirmish really. And all the people who speak with such confidence and authority about what needs to be done, as though they have been given all the answers ahead of time, will be left stuttering like idiots in the face of all that no one could have anticipated.
Knowing that we don’t know anything is the first step to surviving change. This is the mindset that allows us to properly adapt.
