A jerk with a large amount of money thinks that everyone around them is greedy and shallow because the only time people talk to them is when they need money.

It does not occur to the jerk that the people around them are making a sacrifice in their principles when they ask for money. If they had enough money, they would never talk to the jerk at all as the jerk is simply no fun to be around.

To prevent from getting lonely, or having to confront their own insecurities, the jerk does everything in their power to make sure that other people never have enough money.

Greed is a mental health issue… a disease of addiction.
An alcoholic values booze more than their relationships.
A greedy person values wealth more than their relationships. Communities are structures of human relationship.
A healthy society protects itself from the dismantling effects of all addictions.
