Are we making technology that undermines our long term ability to even make/repair that technology?

Calculators reduce the need to know math. Thus, fewer people know and can do the math required to make calculators. If the calculators are then taken away for some reason…

Moreover, the more we depend on calculators to do math for us, the less likely anyone would be able to know if the calculators were providing wrong answers… either accidentally or intentionally.

This concept can be applied to other, less tangible, aspects of human thought. The more people rely on the freedom of social media and entertainment pundits to tell them the acceptable way to view an issue, the less likely they will be able to buck the norm and think from their own perspective… undermining their actual ability to be free.

True freedom involves constant uncertainty and never-ending risk. The person who takes our uncertainty away, also takes our freedom away.

In our social media driven society, all a private interest needs to do is sell the idea that certain people, who hold certain beliefs, are safe to ridicule and abuse. Then, the insecurity woven into our society, through the broken education system and debt driven materialism, compells people to “pile on” those people in an effort to be seen as the coolest. Classic school yard bullying tactics.

All technology inherently removes us from the real environment that we depend on to survive.
