We are living through a time, in the evolution cycle of a civilization, when the fanatics have taken control.

There are many things in an ecosystem that we cannot understand, much less control. Wise managers will spend time and effort to read and study an ecosystem to plan out a series of moves to influence the ecosystem in a certain direction. These managers will then, if all appears to be in a favourable position, enact the first step of their plan. After which, they will wait and watch to see how the ecosystem reacts to the change. If the ecosystem responds as expected, they will prepare to make the next step of their plan. If the ecosystem does not respond as expected, they take time to study the difference and develop a new plan.

Bad managers, by various means, damage the ecosystem by presuming or not caring about the outcome.

  • An arrogant manager is impatient because they believe they know more than they possibly can about the ecosystem.
  • A lazy/inept manager does not put enough effort into studying and monitoring the reactions of the ecosystem.

The fanatic, regardless of how patient or hard working they started out, will eventually give up on all pretence and try to force the final steps of their plan in quick succession, just to experience the thrill and euphoria of achievement. They think they see the finishing line, drop everything to enter an all out sprint for victory. Not realizing that there is no end to sound management.

Economies are ecosystems… and sound management is cultural.
