The most important role of a warrior is to be prepared…
which involves knowing how to rest and be still when times are calm.
(The Samurai pursued poetry and other forms of art.)

If they do not have this discipline;
if they pursue empty victories;
if they fight for wealth or entertainment;
if they allow their personal aspirations
take them far from home;
they will be lost, tired and disorganized when they are needed most.

The greatest catastrophe from such a chaotic state of mind
is that the warrior will not understand the immediate
situation well enough to act accordingly.
They will overreact out of fear and anger
to hide the shame of their own confusion and vanity.
