The pursuit of sustainability is the only reason for a government to exist. Otherwise, if a government did not pursue sustainability, people would be better off on their own.

Good government should never allow anything or anyone to become more powerful than it. Not the military. Not the banks. Not the billionaires. However, as the population grows, confusion can make people and governments lose perspective and fight for control instead of balance.

By the principles of Carrying Capacity, we all die if reason is less powerful than greed and avarice. (Even the greedy will come to an end if allowed to pursue their addictions unhindered.)

Humans are political creatures. We all reflexively look for anything to give us advantage. The people within a government will learn to use the government as a weapon. The general public will find their own ways in response. (Often unexpected.)

In the 17th century, parents loaded up their families onto ships to make a life threatening journey across an ocean, to build an uncertain life in an unknown land. Most of them died because of this choice, but eventually people learned enough to get a toehold. (Like waves of soldiers storming a beachhead. There are many more dead in the first wave than the last.)

Today people are again looking for ways to gain political leverage of their own. Some are innocuous, like complaining about which pronouns are used. Others are more serious, like choosing to not get vaccines. Wave after wave, we will watch these efforts become more extreme. (Wave after wave, we will see a new culture emerge.)

Don’t think there is reason behind this, or that a reason is either right or wrong if there is. This is how populations are hard wired. It is simply the reflex of people looking to gain political advantage… Eventually all growing populations must divide in one way or another.

If we cannot find balance, we must either divide or crash. Those are the options.
